The Royal Household is constantly looking at new ways of saving and supplying and supplying power so as to remain as environmentally friendly as possible well into the future. There are recently plans for two hydro-electric (水力发电) arrangements which will help them run from environ-mentally friendly power sources.
As well as being the Queen’s official London living place, Buckingham Palace is the place for a lot of receptions, audiences and banquets each year and houses about 600 full and part-time employees. It therefore needs to provide heat and power for a huge number of people and purposes.
Ron Harper, Deputy Property Manager at Buckingham Palace, is responsible for ensuring that energy is supplied efficiently and effectively. Property section staff are committed (保证) to saving energy wherever possible: “Every five years, things related to the efficient running of the household’s heat and power supplies are reviewed by the team here at Buckingham Palace, meaning that energy efficiency within the Royal Household is constantly under a process of examination and improvement.”
A number of measures have been taken in recent years. In 1995 , heat resonance imaging was used on the Palace to locate (查找) the major areas where heat was beling lost so that heat and energy loss could be reduced. It was found that most heat was being lost through windows and , in particular, through skylights. As a result, double glazing (窗用玻璃) has already been fitted to a number of skylights and is planned for the skylights above the Picture Gallery in the near future. But monthly meetings are held with English Heritage (遗产) to ensure that any changes which are made do not affect the original appearance of the building as a heritage site.
