In early 1908, to shoot the film the Count of Monte Cristo, Francis Bougas, the director, and Thomas Bersent, the director of photography of Sunlig Film Company producing western films came to a village in a suburb of Los Angeles. They set up a small studio here and name the village as Hollywood, which means the woods of holly. This is a beautiful place that is naturally suitable for various outdoor scenes. Since its establishment in 1913, major film production companies such as Paramont, MGM, Fox, Universal, Warner Brothers, etc. have gathered here and dominated film production, screening and issue of films in the world. Meanwhile, many directors and actors have been attracted there for film-making or performance career. Thus, Hollywood becomes the most prosperous movie center in the United States.

Producers only care about how to make money and prefer "putting more light on profitable destinations" and "aiming the camera at adoring faces of viewers". They are often characterized by presentation of various happenings in life, compact and tortuous structures, complicated and unique personalities of characters, frequent misunderstandings and coincidences, and legendary and romantic styles. Thus, they are usually both exciting and entertaining and well satisfy people's need for sensational escatacy and pleasant experience. The golden age of Hollywood was in 1930-40s. In the meantime, many masterpieces were produced, including Gone with the Wind, Rebecca, Waterloo Bridge, Modern Times and Great Dictator (the last two were starred by Charlie Chaplin), to name just a few. These films are not only regarded as classic masterpieces at Hollywood, but also contribute excellent treasures to the world of films.
