当他第一次遇上那女孩的时候就爱上了她。

（填the first time)
当他第一次乘轮船去上海的时候，她很不舒服。

（the first time可以引导时间状语从句，有when...for the first time的意思）

1. The newly-built apartment () the Smiths want to buy is two km away
(填that)
史密斯一家想买的新建的公寓在两公里以外。
（从句中buy缺宾语，所以用that ,不能用关系副词where)
2. We will call at the house () Chairman Mao once lived.
(填where)
我们将去参观毛主席曾居住过的房子。
（live不缺主语，也不能加宾语，所以不用that,用where)
that when
1. They want to know the day () China sent up the first man-made satellite.
(填when)
他们想知道中国发射第一颗人造卫星的日子。
（从句动词sent up主语是China，宾语是the first man-made satellite.所以不用that,用when)
2. The students acquired a lot during the days() they spent with the local villagers
（填that)
学生们在和当地的村民一起度过的日子中，收获了很多。
（从句动词spent缺宾语，所以用that,不能用when)
