中文的“农民”用英文怎样表达，是peasant还是Farmer，一直有不同意见。让我们看看字典中的定义：

Farmer：
a person who farms; person who operates a farm or cultivates land.

peasant：
a member of a class of persons, as in Europe, Asia, and Latin America, who are small farmers or farm laborers of low social rank.

因此，个人理解，Farmer多指发达国家的务农的人，有较大的农场，规模较大，像美国、澳大利亚等国的农人。而peasant多指发展中国家小规模分散务农的人，或者是做农活的雇工。中国的农民称为peasant较适合。
