SHIPMENTS AND CANADA CUSTOMS
If you are planning to ship baggage to St. Catharines, be sure to check with a shipping agent regarding travel and arrival times at least one or two months in advance of your departure. Items should be addressed with the name of your host family. If you are not sure where you will be living, you can send them to our department (the mailing address is at the bottom of this letter). If you are shipping "used clothes", make sure to write this on the box or you will be charged a tax on your own clothes when they arrive in Canada .

TEXTBOOKS
During the first week of the summer program, you will be provided with a list of the appropriate textbooks and materials for all of your classes. You must provide your own textbooks, pens, pencils and notebooks (unless otherwise advised).

WEATHER AND CLOTHING
Temperatures for the summer can vary from 15 to 32 degrees Celsius. Temperatures in the fall and winter can vary from -15 to 32 degrees Celsius. As you can see, you will need a variety of clothing (pants, sweaters, coats & t-shirts). Do not worry if you do not have all of the right clothes. You can buy anything you need here. If you enjoy sports, be sure to bring your bathing suit (there is an indoor pool at Brock), running shoes, baseball glove, rollerblades or tennis racquet.

BUS PASS
All students are required to purchase a bus pass for the local transit system. The cost of the bus pass for the entire term is included with your ancillary fee and you will receive it on the first day of the program.

HOMESTAY PAYMENT (if applicable)
During 14-week sessions, you will pay your family directly on a monthly basis beginning upon arrival. Please do not pay your family in advance, but on a monthly basis only. Deposits will be forwarded to your homestay family on the 3rd month of each term

NOTE: The homestay deposit is a mandatory payment due for each term you wish to stay in homestay. You must pay your deposit for the following term one and a half months before the start date and this is to be done in office EA 301. Also, remember that your commitment to homestay is for the entire length of the term. If you leave a homestay before such time, you will be charged the regular homestay fee.

LONG DISTANCE CALLS
If you are planning to make telephone calls home, you should bring a "calling card" or other credit card that allows you to make long distance calls. Your host family is not obligated to let you use their telephone for long distance calls. Once you arrive to Canada , it is useful to seek out “pre-paid, international or long distance phone cards”, which are available at most local variety stores.
