We have done some researches about the litter storage, water holding capacity ,retention rate ,and water absorbing rate in man-made alder forest on the two series Alnus cremastogyne Burli and Alnus formosana using the flooding method. The result shows that the litter storage of Alnus cremastogyne Burli is 7.86 t/hm2 which is bigger than the Alnus formosana of 7.35t/hm2.

Either the whole water holding capacity or the water holding capacity of each layer is bigger than the Alnus formosana.The order of the retention rate of litter in different soak period is the half decomposed layer of the Alnus cremastogyne Burli > the half decomposed layer of Alnus formosana> the undecomposed layer of Alnus formosana> the undecomposed layer of Alnus cremastogyne Burli.
4.The water absorbing rate for the two series of alder of the two decomposed layer accord with W=at-b.
5. The water holding capacity of litter in Alnus cremastogyne Burli is better than Alnus formosana.
