1.tolerate除用于容忍痛苦,难堪的人,物和事项外,有时也用于容忍程度较轻,并不一定给主语带来强烈的痛苦.例如:
** We will not tolerate any invasion of our motherland.
** A childish idea like that can be amusedly tolerate.
** We shouldn't tolerate the attitude of seeing and hearing
the breach of discipline without taking any notice.
2.stand多用于口语里,常常用在否定的形式中,在肯定中往往含有经得住的意思.例:
** They won't stand for the arrogant behaviour of the boss.
** Make the farm tool pretty strong, as it's got to stand
a lot of hard use.
3.bear强调坚韧的一面.例:
** I must ask you to bear with me while I go into what may
seem rather tedious details.
** A communist is always the first to bear hardship and the
last to enjoy comforts.
4.endure侧重对忍受痛苦的难受和长期性.例:
** The capitalist must realize that there is a limit to
what we workers will endure.
** We could not endure their unreasonable action.
** You should endure the pain caused by the wound these
days.
5.brook用于书面语言,通常以否定形式表达.如:
** The facts brook no distortion.
** The matter brooks no delay.
