Having graduated from a teacher's college, Qiu Lin would take up his new post in about ten days, which was the only chance for him to relax himself, so he decided to travel. Carrying a bag on his back, he got on the car to a scenic spot which he had long before wished to visit. The road became narrower and narrower after five hours' jolting, and then, thirty more minutes later, the car broke down abruptly and stopped at the roadside.
After a brief examination, the driver decided that the trouble was too serious to remove for the moment, so he agreed to give back the passengers all the money for their tickets. However, they were a little dissatisfied and began to argue with him. Qiu wasn't worried at all, for he had come out just to seek "wild interests", and now since there was little hope to the recovery of the car, he could still travel on foot. Therefore, he took the money from the driver, got off the car and started a carefree stroll. Soon Qiu saw a village from which cooking smoke rose slowly just as from a fairyland. Strange as it may be, Qiu was ignited by the villagers' enthusiasm. Then, a thirty-or-so-year-old sun-tanned thin man came from the crowd, grabbed Qiu by the hand and cried out, "Welcome, Teacher Wang. I'm Director of the village." Qiu was confused.
