在昨天国家外文局培训中心举办的翻译文化免费系列讲座上，该中心主任王欣透露，目前我国在岗聘任的翻译专业人员约6万人，而此行业的保守需求值约50万，随着社会经济的发展，很快“可能就会达到100万”，翻译人才缺口高达90%.王欣认为，翻译能力的薄弱已成为中国经济发展和对外交往中几个急需解决和必须面对的问题。
中国翻译协会的统计数据显示，现在国内在册翻译公司近3000家，仅在北京注册的翻译公司就有400余家。据了解，这些翻译公司大多规模都很小，翻译人员多是兼职，缺乏科学的管理方式，翻译水平参差不齐。　　王欣认为，翻译能力薄弱的问题如果不给予充分重视，就会成为中国经济发展的一个大问题。为了让更多的人能了解翻译文化、学习翻译，今年，国家外文局培训中心与国家图书馆联合推出了翻译文化免费系列讲座，每月一到两次。
