The word “culture” is derived from the Latin verb “colere” which means “to cultivate”. Later, the word “culture” came to indicate a process of refinement in the breading and domesticating of some particular crop. In contemporary times the meaning relates to the society’s control, refinement and domestication itself. A contemporary definition of culture is the “set of important understandings that members of a community share in common”.
At its most basic, corporate culture is described as the personality of the organization, simply as “how things are done around here.” It guids how employees think, act and fell. Corporate culture is a broad term used to define the unique personality or character of a particular company or organization, and includes such elements as core values and beliefs, coporate ethics,and rules of behavior. Organization can be described using the same terms as we use to describ individuals. Organization can be warm,aggressive, friendly, open innovative, conservative, and so on. An organizaion’s culture is transmitted in different ways, including long standing and often unwritten rules, shared standars about its importance, prejudices, standards for social etiquette and demeanor, established customs foe how to relate to peers and what is and is not appropriate behave, by establishing a value system conveyed through rites, myths, legends and actions. Corporate culture means “the way we do things around here.”
