良好的公共关系要做到以下四点：
第一，公共关系是指一定的组织机构和与它利益相关的社会公众的相互关系。这些关系构成了一个庞大的网络，搞好这些关系是组织发展的重要前提。
第二，公共关系的目标是在组织与社会公从中形成沟通，参组织决策，争取公众的理解与支持。公共部门与公众发生关系，直接目的不是为了促销、竞选、扩大营业额，而是为了在公众心目中树立一个良好形象，取得社会各界的了解、信任、赞许，为组织的发展创造一个良好的人际环境。
第三，从事公共关系工作的基本原则是互利互惠，真诚合作。从事公关工作一定要以公众的利益为出发点，决不能做只顾组织自身利益，不择手段欺骗公众的事情。
第四，公共关系基本工作方法是内外结合，双向沟通，内求团结，外求发展。公共关系与公众的沟通主要是信息的沟通，而且这种沟通一定是双向的。
与公众沟通的方式有很多种，比如：召开新闻发布会、举办展览会、企业赞助、举办庆典活动、宣传广告发布、开展社会公益活动等等。

Good public relations should involve the following four points:

First, public relations refer to the mutual relationship between certain organization and the public whose benefits are relevant to. These kinds of relationships constitute a huge network. To do well these relationships is the key precondition of the development of organization.

Second, the purpose of public relations is establishing communication between organizations and the public, participating organizational decisions, striving for understand and support of the public. The direct purpose of the relations between public departments and the public is to establish a well image in the public, obtain understanding, trust and imprimatur from all works of life, and create a great interpersonal environment for organization rather than to promote sales, electing campaign or expand turnover.

Third, the basic principle of engaging in the public relations is sincere collaboration based on the mutual benefit and reciprocity. Its starting point should be public interests, never deceive the public by fair means or foul to gain organization’s benefits.

Fourth, the basic method of public relations is unifying inside and outside, communicating bilaterally, seeking for in-house solidarity and development externally. The main communication between the public relations and the public is conveying information bilaterally. Besides, there are many modes of communicating with the public, such as to hold press conferences, exhibitions, enterprise patronages, celebrations, promulgating advertisements, developing socially useful activities, and so forth.
