這組詞都有表示參加、參與的意思，但用法都不太一樣，我們可以從以下的說明和例句來看：
<A> join 是及物動詞，可指參加一群人的活動，也可指加入某個組織，並成為其中的一員。如：join the Party/army (入黨/從軍)。 join in 是指參加某項運動或活動。
例： When did they join the conservation organization?
他們是什麼時候參加環保組織的？
They are playing basketball. Let’s go and join them.
他們在打籃球，我們去跟他們一起打吧。（加入他們的意思）
There were many extracurricular activities, but Peter never joined in.
儘管有很多課外動，但Peter從不參加。
<C> take part in 一般是指參加群眾性的活動，並在其中身體力行，引起一份作用。如：參加 revolution (革命)、contest (競賽)、struggle(鬥爭)等。另外，如果說要參加talk（座談）、conversation(會談、談話)等具體活動時，要用join in。take part in 和 join in 常常可以互相使用。如：take part in / join in the discussion，但如果說加入某人所從事的活動，只能說 join somebody in something （意思是說成為他們其中的一員）
例： I’d love to join in a concert, but I really don’t like to take an active part in.
音樂會我可以參加，不過要演奏，我興趣不大。
We are going to put on a play; do you want to take part in?
我們打算演出一場戲，你願意參加嗎？
2. 錯誤發生情況及修正：
<A> join 和 take part in 的分別：
例： He joined the tennis tournament. (X)
He took part in the tennis tournament. (O)
他參加網球賽。
（這是指參加活動，並身體力行，並沒有成為一員的意思。）
<B> join 和 join in 的分別：
例： Mom doesn’t want me to join in the dancing club. (X)
Mom doesn’t want me to join the dancing club. (O)
媽媽不希望我參加跳舞俱樂部。
*注意： 不可以說 “join in a club” 要說” join a club” 。另外，如果你要說一個人上大學或上學，用join 這個字也不好。例如：不可以說：She joined Harvard，要改成 She went to Harvard in 1990.
