第一次乘火车
　　我是艾丽斯•汤姆逊， 来自澳大利亚悉尼，今年18岁。最近我第一次乘坐了长途火车。一次多么奇妙的乘车经历！我和一位朋友乘坐著名的Ghan 去旅行。我们在悉尼上车，在4000多公里以外的澳大利亚中部的艾丽斯斯普林斯下车，并在火车上呆了两天两夜。
　　火车很棒，食品又美味。我们吃的美味饭菜是烹饪大师们做的！旅途开始的几百公里，景色多姿多彩：有田野，泥土是深红色的。过后就是沙漠。太阳高照，空中没一丝风、一朵云彩。突然之间又好像来到了另一个时代的某地。我们看到被遗弃了的100年前建造的农庄。
　　火车很舒服，大家都很友好。在白天，我坐着看窗外，有时和别的旅客说说话。我读读书，听听汉语磁带（我正在学校学汉语）。有一个晚上，大约是在半夜，差不多有整整一小时我都在注视夜晚的天空。星星闪着如钻石般的光芒。
　　为什么这种火车叫Ghan呢？很久以前，澳大利亚人需要一条去往这个国家中部的通道。他们试着骑马，但那些马不喜欢炎热的天气和沙漠。150年前，他们从阿富汗引进了一些骆驼。Ghan是阿富汗的缩写。
　　对于长途旅行而言，骆驼比马匹要好得多。许多年以来，经过训练的骆驼运走食品和其它供给物，带回羊毛和其它产品。
　　直到20世纪20年代，阿富汗人和他们的骆驼还在做着这样的工作。后来，政府修了一条新的铁路线，他们就再也不需要骆驼了。1925年通过了一条法令，规定如果这些动物成为问题，就允许人们杀死它们。1935年，一座镇上的警察一天之内就射杀了153头骆驼

The first time on a train

I'm Alice • Thomson ,18 years old and from Sydney, Australia.Lately I took the train of long-distance for the first time,which was a very wonderful experience.I went on a journey with a friend by the famous Ghan.We got on the train in Sydney and got off in Alice Springs ,which is more than 4,000 kilometers away from Sydney and lies in the middle part of Australia.So we stayed on the train two days and nights .

The train was much great,and the food was delicious as well,which was cooked by the culinary masters.At the beginning of the journey about several kilometers,the scenery was colorful,and there was the field,where the soil is cardinal .Then was the desert .The sun shined,and there was no wind and cloud in the sky.Suddenly it seemed to be somewhere in another era,where we saw the abandoned grange built 100 years ago.

The train was comfortable and everyone was very friendly.In days I sit looking out of the window,somethimes talked with passengers .I read and listened the Chinese tapes(I'm learning Chinese in school ).One night, about in midnight,I watched the sky almost a whole hour. The stars twinkled like diamonds.

Why this type of train is called Ghan? Long ago ,The Australians needed a gangway which is for the middle part of this country.They tried to ride horses,but those horses didn't like hot weather and desert.So 150 years ago, they imported some camel from Afghanistan,and which is short for Ghan.

For long distance journey, camel is much better than horse.Since many years,the trained camel carried away food and other supply ,as well as brought in wool and other products.

Until the 20th century, 20 years,Afghanistani and their camel still did such job.Later,the government built a new railway.So they didn't need the camel any longer.A piece of statute was passed, which stipulated if these animals became a problem,people could kill them.In 1935, the policemen in a town killed 153 camel in one day.
