为什么答案是D，而不是C？ask不是要求的意思吗？

require是需要，命令的意思，较ask正式，语气更强烈
required本身也有“必需的”的意思。
ask一般表示 某人（有把握的）请求，要求什么，不用于被动；而且，这里表达的是 必须回复所有客户的信件，不容商量。
看下面例子：
All passengers are required to show their tickets.
所有乘客都必须出示车票。

必须显然比要求更为严厉和正规。
仔细体会如下一段话及例子：
ask含有期望“给以回答”或“作出反应”的意思。当你觉得所要求的东西会得到时，或者不可能被拒绝时，用ask。看下面三个例子，都没有“必须”之意：
The following day, the patient asked for a bedside telephone.
第二天，那位病人要求安装一个床头电话。
Last week at a dinner-party, the hostess asked me to sit next to Mrs Rumbold.
上星期在一次宴会上，女主人要我坐在兰姆伯尔德夫人的旁边。
