As a tenth-grade English teacher, I love my subject and I’ve changed the way students perceive (理解) literature. I have even inspired some to become English teachers. I have received countless thank-you cards, gifts and letters. If I had to pick one or two students I have come to love, that would be difficult for there are too many students each year who stand out and often a lasting relationship between us is formed. One student in particular, however, is John Doe. He sat in the back often, saying very little. However, I sensed he was talking all that I had taught. John was never absent nor was he late. He seemed very mature (成熟) for his age. John had written some beautiful poetry that spoke of his experiences as a black male in America. I was surprised that he could write so well though there was some editing to be done. On the last day of school, John wrote an essay to me and decorated it with roses.
“Some people you meet in life are flowers, but there are those who are rose. Ms Hopkins, you are a rose in my life and I have enjoyed every minute of being in your class. You have shown me that I have a (n) purpose in life and that I am a poet. I’ll never forget you.”
Needless to say, tears streamed down my eyes. John’s words touched me in such a deep and emotional way. I had a particularly hard personal life that year and his letter made it worth the struggle. John visits me as much as possible and tells me how much he misses my classroom. Making a significant contribution to someone’s life is something money can never buy. Teaching allows me to make a positive difference in the life of students. So I am proud of being a teacher..

作为一名10年级的英文教师，我热爱我教的科目，并且改变了学生们理解文学的方式。我甚至还鼓励一些学生，让他们将来也做英文教师。我已经收到了无数的感谢卡，礼物和信件。如果我不得不挑出一二个我喜欢的学生，那将是非常困难的，因为每年都有太多突出的学生，我和他们之间也成为了永久的朋友。然而，有一个学生很特别，这个学生叫约翰多伊。他总是坐在教室的后面，很少说话。但是我能感觉到他在讲我教给他的东西。约翰从来都不逃课，也不迟到。他看起来要比实际年龄成熟。约翰还写了一些美丽的小诗来描述他这个黑人在美国的经历。虽然他的诗还需要一些改动，我还是对他能写出这么好的诗感到谅讶。在离开学校的那天，约翰给我写了一篇散文，还用玫瑰花来装饰它。

“在你的生命中会遇到一些人，他们就像花一样，但是他们中有一些是玫瑰花。霍普金斯夫人，您就是我生命中的玫瑰花，在您的课堂上，每一分钟都令我陶醉。您告诉我生活的目标，也让我知道自己是一个诗人。我永远也不会忘记您的”不用说，我的眼泪已经夺眶而出。约翰的话深深地打动了我。那年正是我个人最艰难的时期，他的信告诉我值得一拼。约翰总是尽可能地常来看我，告诉我他多么想念我的课堂。在某人的生命中帮他一大把是用钱买不到的。教学让我能在学生的生命中做出积极的改变。所以我很自豪我是一名教师。。。
