This agreement set forth the basis for a Free Trade Agreement between Mexico and the European Union. The liberalization program for Mexican products was concluded on January 1, 2003, while the one for the European products exported to Mexico will be concluded on January 1, 2007. The Global Agreement also promotes the complementation of the agricultural sectors and establishes a legal framework for the liberalization of trade in services, foreign direct investment promotion, the protection of industrial property rights, government purchases and the solution of disputes.
