An American boy
The Shute family lived in the southern part of the USA . Mr Shute was a farm worker , and he didn’t have much money. Mr and Mrs Shute had a daughter called Jane . Then they had a second child-a son . How happy they were ! They called him James and loved him very much .
But there was something wrong with the child . He did
Everything very slowly . His parents did not know what was wrong . So one day they took him to a doctor . The doctor found that there was something wrong with James’ eyes. He could not see anything .
The doctor said he could do nothing to help him .
Mr and Mrs Shute were very sad . But what could they do?
James grew bigger every day . He was very healthy and happy,
But be could not look after himself . He could not wash himself or
Get dressed. Instead , his sister or his parents had to help him.
One day , the Shutes heard that there was a good doctor in a
Town not far away . Maybe he could help James . So they took the
Boy to visit him . The doctor looked over James and asked the Shutes many questions . At last he said , I think I can help him He’ll
be OK if I do one small operation .Just one small operation? Yes , yes . Do it , doctor!One minute…two minutes…three…four…ten minutes .And then , James could see ! How happy everyone was!

Shute一家住在美国南部，Shute先生是一个农场工人，他不是很富有。Shute夫妇有一个叫Jane的女儿。不久他们又有了第二个孩子，一个男孩。Shute夫妇很高兴，他们很爱这个孩子，给他起名叫James。但是，这个男孩身上出了点问题。因为他做什么事情总是很慢。男孩的父母不知道到底是什么原因。因此，在某一天，他们带这个男孩去看医生。医生发现，是James的眼睛出了问题，他什么都看不到。这个医生说，他帮不了这个孩子，Shute先生和太太非常伤心。但是他们又能做什么呢。James一天天健康快乐的成长，但是他不能自己照顾自己。他不能自己洗脸或者穿衣服。取而代之，他的父母和姐姐需要帮助他。一天，Shute夫妇听说在离他们不远的一个小镇上有一个医术高明的医生，他可能帮助他们的儿子James。因此他们带领儿子去拜访这个高明的医生。这个医生检查了James并问了Shute夫妇许多问题。 最后他说，他能治疗这个孩子的问题，如果给孩子做个小手术，孩子很快就会没事。仅仅是一个小手术？Shute夫妇文。是的。医生回答说。 那就做吧，医生。1分钟，2分钟，3.4。。。 10分钟。不久，James能够看到了！每个人都那么开心。
