这题似应该选how或in that，因为从句中需要的是状语，所以应该选用关系副词或者是介词加上关系代词。可实际上英语人不那么说，他们用一种更简便的说法，那就是直接用关系代词that.而且更简单的是，这里的that都甚至可以省略。实际上that在这里已转化成了关系副词了。如果本句中去掉the way,则可以选用how.

that可用作关系副词，在表明方式、时间或地点的单词后面，常用that来代替in which，when或where, that也可省去。

在下面这个句子中，不能用why, 只能用which/that：
I don’t want to hear any reason( that/which) you might give. 我不想听你所提出的任何理由。（在这个定语从句中，that/which作定语从句中谓语动词give的宾语）
