城市交通问题是本世纪以来，工业发达国家一直为之困扰的问题。进入80年代以来，我国城市的经济贸易和社会活动日益繁忙，城市交通发生了前所未有的迅速增长，传统的道路交通设施已经不能适应现代社会的需要。当前，我国城市特别是大城市的交通问题极其严重，如果不能得到有效解决和根本治理，必将对我国经济的持续、快速、健康发展构成严重威胁。

Translation : Causes and trends of traffic problems in China's big cities and recommendations thereto

City traffic problems have troubled most industrially developed countries since the commencement of the 20th century. Upon the dawn of the 80's, unrelenting acceleration in economic trades and soical activities have caused city traffic in China to grow at unprecedented speed. Traditional road traffic facilities are showing signs of their incompatibility with modern days' needs. At the moment, traffic problems in bigger cities in China are particularly serious. In the event that they are not effectivly solved or totally eradicated, the sustainable, rapid and healthy growth of China's economy would no doubt be seriously threatened.
